Tv On The Radio's "Dear Science", Cold War Kids & Nation of Ulysses

Yesterdays big release was Tv on the Radio's third studio album release of Dear Science. In my opinion, this is, without a doubt, one of the best albums to come out this year - maybe even in recent years - and far surpasses the mind blowing Return to Cookie Mountain release in 2006. Now this is just my opinion - a lot of people disagreed with me last night when I presented this argument after listening to it. Click below on album artwork to download full album. Also, they are playing 3 nights in a row @ the Masonic Temple in their hometown of Brooklyn Oct 14-16 - and if you have tickets to any of these sold out shows, I'm extremely jealous!

Another release yesterday was the second full length album by the Cold War Kids, Loyalty to Loyalty. Im not going to lie, I was not the biggest Cold War Kids fan after their first album Robbers & Cowards. But this album improved my opinion.... slightly. Still not a huge fan, but kids seem to really enjoy them. I just cant get in on that bluesy rock stuff. But, if you can, click on the album art below! Your nostalgic download for the day is Nation of Ulysses,  13 point program to destroy america. A friend (who was way too old to be my friend) in my hometown in new brunswick, nj introduced me to this band when i was 14 years old, a sophomore in high school. I used to hang around new brunswick with all the "cool" older punk kids. They were like gods to me, and anything they listened to, i considered the fruit of life. When i first heard the noisy and manic sound of Nation of Ulysses my musical taste completely shifted, and my attitude as a whole. They used a sort of "free jazz" influence, they rejected drugs, alcohol and the like, they dressed in suits... SUITS! This was a far cry from the concept i got from listening to the sex pistols and punk bands like them from my punk start a few years prior. And i totally ate that up in a BIG way. I had the pleasure of meeting one of my idols, lead singer, Ian Svenonius, just last week at a friends wedding. He was sitting right next to me, and i seriously almost peed my pants while talking to him. He is just as weird and crazy as i thought and hoped he would be. I seriously have been idolizing that dude since an issue Sassy magazine named him one the Sassiest Men in America. I went thru a really embarrassing phase of my life where i needed the biggest hair ever, and i wore skinny ties with tshirts. Yikes.

Nation of Ulysses - 13 Point Program to Destroy America

Sadly, Ulysses broke up in 1992 and went on to form The Make Up and Cupid Car Club, which was short lived but were just as influential to me. Ian Svenonius us now in a band called Weird War, which released its last album, Illuminated By Light (DragCity Recs) in 2005.
